Test

Dip a test strip once or twice a week.

Adjust

Add sanitizer or balancer when the strip says so. Small, regular doses beat big fixes.

Rinse the filter

Hose it off every few weeks and replace it when it stops coming clean.

Refresh the water

Drain and refill every few months, sooner if the tub gets a lot of use.
